Weekly new No.17

Woman with Asperger's removed from BFI cinema for laughing.

Tamsin Parker

Tasmin Parker was at a BFI cinema on London's south bank watching her favourite film The good, The bad, The ugly. Tasmin suffers from Asperger's syndrome and was "forcibly removed" for laughing to much. Already I think this is stupid because when I wen't to see the new Avengers almost everybody laughed at different moments during the film. Also some films will include humor to try and get the audience to laugh, so to be removed for laughing is awful. Especially as you've just paid money to see it aswell.

Asperger's is a form of autism and people who suffer with it may find social relationships and communicating difficult.

A lot of people in that screening walked out in a protest due to what they thought as "disgusting" behaviour from the cinema itself. The cinema itself is apologising for its behaviour and saying it must do better.

Tasmin's Parker mum (Lydia Parker) has said her daughter was flooding in tears. She also said she was disgusted and shocked at how Tasmin was humiliated.

Lloyd Shepherd said that although she laughed very loudly at amusing bits there was never anything that was inappropriate. Some other people have said:

"I was there too and found it sickening. A very unfortunate and uncomfortable situation. I would like to say that having returned later after calming down, I spoke to the manager and believe she was in a very difficult situation, still 100% not fair what happened to that lady."

"It was shocking to witness. The abuse she received for simply laughing and enjoying the film. It broke my heart to see this unfold. My son was with me, he is autistic too, we went to try &make sure she had a safe space and that staff knew how to support her. I hope she is okay x"

The cinema has also said "The BFI said it was "sincerely sorry" and would look into training staff to be more sensitive. In a statement, it added: "In what was a challenging and complex situation, we got it wrong. "We can and must do better in accommodating all the needs of our customers."

Overall, like i mentioned earlier I think that this shouldn't have happened because producers put humor in a film to make the audience laugh so to get dragged out for laughing to much is awful and even though they are saying sorry and that they handled the situation wrong they should either pay her compensation money or give her free viewings at that cinema for such a muck up.

Faye production work No.2

3 uses of mood boards
· Will help establish the basics of what you want. colour palettes, typography, the layout, images.
· They can help save time as after doing it you know roughly what you want to include.
· Mood boards are "fluid" meaning that although the final piece may be online you can do a mood board for any media platform making it very versatile.
3 uses of storyboards
· Helps to recognise the amount of time you'll need to produce whatever you are producing e.g. film or trailer.
· You roughly draw up the scenes needed so you know where to start and finish instead of just starting to film random bits here and there.
· Will help you to pre-visualise everything before you have started any actual production
3 differences between the two.
·  A storyboard is specific to a set genre whereas a mood board will be of just a general subject.
·  A mood board can be used to suggest a genre, colour scheme etc whereas a storyboard will show scenes and be more of a template.
·  Mood boards will help you get a general idea of what you want however a storyboard will show you what production needs to be done.

Sound effects:
Stabbing
Punching
Police Sirens
Foley sounds

Eerie music, tense music.

The main story line of our product revolves around the murder of a basketball player while
his team mate goes to the bathroom, the murder will take place from the perspective from
the victims and the witness.  The main twist of our storyline is the fact that one of the
detectives is the murder, in our story line we will try to elude to this twist without spoiling it at
the end
In our trailer we will focus on the main murder which is where are main victim tre is murder
whilst he practices basketball in the courts

TRAILER CAMERA ANGLES

1. Low medium shot. In the first scene of the trailer we will use a low shot on the floor to show a basketball rolling across the screen. We will use a slider to track the basketball as it rolls. This lengthened shot allows the audience to be more greatly affected by the murder. This low angle shot will restrict what the audience sees. By keeping the action off screen there is an element of shock or mystery created for the audience.

2. Over the shoulder shot. We will use an over the shoulder shot behind the first victim as he practices his shots. This gives the impression that there is something standing behind the character. This helps with the horror theme and builds suspense for the audience.

3. Using a close up shot on the hand of the killer to show the blood on his hands. Highly detailed close ups help build mystery for the audience.

4. Long shot on conflict between detective and killer down a corridor. This shot places distance between the audience and the action which

Dizzee Rascal Dream and Formation analysis

Analysis.

In this music video Dizzee Rascal starts talking about him and his friends when they were younger and they thought they knew everything and thought they were kings. Also we see "mother" who used to do all these educational videos to children on whats right and wrong. This makes this video better because it is an educational video almost due to Dizzee talking about his childhood and the mistakes he made and what he thought was right back then.

In his second verse he talks about how his priorities changes and started focusing on music and that was all he wanted to do and how he is thankful to everyone who bought his album which made him grow. All he cared about was performing/ making music and getting his money as fast as he could.

The final verse is the most influential in my opinion because he then starts to talk to the younger generations saying they can go pretty far if they put their minds to it and stop worrying about "your mans" as they will still be there in the end if they are real. I think this is quite powerful because it is coming from someone who doesn't want other youngsters to waste their potential on small things and go out and do bigger things to make the world better instead of doing nothing.

Visually the video looks pretty old and has a few puppets and toys going around however I think that was the aim for this because "mother" used to do her shows a while back so they wanted to try re-create that same feeling again. There wasn't much in the way of colour but again I think

Technical codes for this would include a lot of editing to make the puppets and old toys such as the flying helicopter to look real. As I was saying in the visual section they would have edited the video to look quite old/ basic to get the same feeling as what "mothers" show would have been like back then.

Audio codes for this video would have been the non-diegetic music and the voices from Dizzee and "mother" for us to hear.

Overall, I think the video uses all 3 codes pretty well to try and get that old video feeling and I think it is very informative and even influential to young people to try and stay on track and not lose focus or do things that may muck up your life.

At the start of the video we see Beyonce sitting on a car that is slowly sinking throughout the rest of the video to show that the power of the police was getting smaller and smaller. Also everything else behind her was also flooded and the video was shot in New Orleans to show everyone how devastating it was.

During her second verse she talks about how she slays, I think this could be seen as a form of female empowerment because she's dressing how she wants and doing what she wants showing that she doesn't really listen to what people tell her today but she is confident in what she does and wants other women to look at her feel the same way and not be pressured by society.

A counter argument for this could be that the way she dresses could defeat the whole point of trying to show female empowerment if she's going to wear minimal clothing and dance provocatively. However some people will also argue that she is doing what she wants which shows female empowerment so both sides have different points to argue.

In her third verse she talks about if she wants something she will work and grind for it until she gets it. This may be seen quite positively because she could be saying that if you really want something, work hard and be persistent and one day you'll reach your goals. This could be compared to Dream as Dizzee was also saying put your head down and work for it and you'll reach your dreams.

Overall, I think that even though it may not be the first thing you get from the video if you look deep enough there is positive messages in there such as keep working hard for your dreams and promoting female empowerment.

Alfie Evans update.

Alfie Evans

Tom Evans (Alfie's father) has announced that Alfie's life support machine has been turned of however he is miraculously breathing by himself but has been given oxygen to help him. The parents lost legal charges against a high court back in February after they denied Alfie to be transported to Italy for treatment and now not allowing him to have life support anymore. This is quite infuriating because I think they're making these decisions to prevent them from having to spend money which in their eyes probably doesn't need to be spent.

I wish that they allowed for Alfie to be allowed to be transported to get treatment which may help and i'm happy that he is managing to breathe without the life support.

From now on bosses at Alder Hey (the hospital Alfie is at) have said that "out of respect for the privacy of Alfie and his family" it would not be commenting on the toddler's condition, in line with "normal and agreed practice with all our patients".

Some more good news which is nice to hear is that the Christian Legal Centre (who represent Alfie's parents) have said "Contrary to all the expectations of the doctors... Alfie has survived much longer than the doctors predicted." Also the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs have granted Alfie Italian citizenship in the hopes that will allow for Alfie's immediate transfer to Italy.

There is still speculation that they won't move Alfie or do anything which after everything everyone else has said or done and the High court are still doing nothing and keep saying no which is disappointing to say the least but overall i'm glad that Alfie is making progress and i hope he recovers ASAP.

Weekly news No.15

Alfie Evans case

Alfie Evans

Alfie Evans has been in hospital since December 2016 who has a terminal illness that is a "rare undiagnosed degenerative neurological condition".

He has been in a coma for around a year and there has been debates saying whether his machine that keeps him alive, should be turned off or kept on. Some people argue it should be turned off as he isn't really living life as he is in a coma and the nice thing to do would let him go to a better place where as others see that as cruel and that he should carry living to see if he makes it.

In my opinion it should be the parents choice in the end whether he should be kept alive or not however when they wen't to court the judges ruled that the machine should be turned of but the parents and even "the Pope" disagree.

He has been going back and fourth with his illness because the parents were told he isn't going to make it however he did improve and was able to start breathing by himself but caught a chest infection and was put on a ventilator.

Alfies parents are going to appeal to the supreme court again to move Alfie to Italy to get treatment. I think this should be allowed because by denying this you are keeping a baby/ toddler in a coma waiting for treatment that may never arrive so I think they should allow him to get this treatment to beat the illness and come back.

The parents Mr Evans and Kate James lost the legal fights in the high court and the court of Appeal. All appeals have been rejected by the supreme court and Lord Justice Davies said doctors had agreed that there is no hope. He also said that "We cannot have a kind of legal 'Groundhog Day' where you come back again and again and again on the same point."

Overall I think this is wrong because there wouldn't be a "legal groundhog day" if they allowed Alfie to be moved and treated. As they aren't doing anything he is going to be in a coma and waiting for a miracle to happen whereas if he got treatment he has a better shot at living a better life than what he has currently.

M.E.N Bugzy Malone analysis

M.E.N

Audio

  • Music
  • Non diagetic sound
  • Dialogue
Visual
  • Colours
  • Angles/ camera shots
  • Lighting
Technical
  • Editing
  • Lighting
In this music video we hear the music which would also be non diagetic sound because we cant see were the music is coming from. Also i believe when he speaks it is dialogue because he is telling us about his life and he isn't really singing it but more talking about it.

The music video isn't really colourful because it isn't an upbeat/ happy video so it wouldn't have made sense to make it really colourful. There was different angles and shots to vary it up so it isn't all one shot however the majority of the video was medium/ long shot of him. There was lighting involved as there is in most music videos to make it look better and not so dire.

Again lighting comes under both visual and technical because we can see it but it is something you have to add it isn't natural lighting. There was also editing involved to make the video look better and not have it as boring as it would be without it.

Overall, in the video he speaks about his past and tragic events that happen and how he wants to try and help others by showing that they aren't alone and he wants to be a positive figure for people to look up to in difficult times.

God's plan Drake

God's plan Drake

God's plan by Drake is a music video that shows what Drake thinks Gods plan is by helping the less fortunate. At the beginning of the video he states that he had a budget of $996,631.90 that he donates and gives to random people. At the beginning we see someone talking and he is saying that although he doesn't have much he is happy and he is living a good life despite not having much.

Next we see that he has gone into a supermarket and told everyone that they can get anything they want it is for free and we see everyone having what looks like a good time because they can get what they want and not worry about the expenses.

Stuart Halls reception theory shows three different readings to music videos like this:

  • Preferred - He is giving back to the community and isn't thinking he is better than everyone so he want's to give people a fare hand at life. He says towards the end of the video that we have to look after our mums and ourselves because money isn't anything without family and having people to care about.
  • Negotiated - It is nice that he is giving back to the community but does he really need to show it all if he cared that much he would just do it and not try get recognition for it.
  • Oppositional - Why is he exposing people who are less fortunate and showing the whole world these less fortunate people.

In this shot we see Drake on a crane in front of a university and one reading of this photo could be that Drake is trying to play the role of God being above everyone and helping everyone.

One university he donated to was the university of Miami scholarship. This is one of many that he has donated to which shows his generosity to everyone.

I think what was really powerful in this video is the reactions you get to see from the people and for example one family with the boy and the mother and they start crying which shows how appreciative they are for what he has done for them.

Overall, I think this video was done very well and that what he has done is a nice gesture and that he has helped some people who are less fortunate than others. I don't really agree with people who think that if he wanted to do it then he should have just done it without making a video about because it shows us his good side and how generous he is and with this video it also makes him a lot of money which he may donate more of.

Weekly news No.14

Unhealthy foods causing major issues and even deaths.

The PHE (public health of England) is researching into unhealthy foods such as takeaways, processed meals and other bad foods causing major issues for everyone. Although the government has created a few plans such as Change4life to try and make people realise how bad some foods are it isn't enough to actually stop people.

PHE want to cut the average calorie consumption by 20% to try and help obese people. Whilst this will help calories doesn't play the biggest part in being overweight/ obese it's whats inside the food such as saturated fats, sugars and salts which is the worst bit. I say this because in the fitness industry some major bodybuilders will eat minimum 4 times a day up to 10 - 12 meals a day but they aren't obese because they are eating the correct foods and living a healthy lifestyle.

My next point is exercise plays a huge part in losing weight but for some people they won't exercise due to how much effort it is. A good example for motivation is an app called Sweatcoin which counts how many steps you've done and will turn those steps into a digital currency which you can spend after earning a certain amount of Sweatcoin.

Graphic
PHE also want to reduce the amount of fizzy drinks we consume due to the amount of sugar which is inside them. PHE chief executive Duncan Selbie said "Britain needs to go on a diet. Children and adults routinely eat too many calories, and it's why so many are overweight or obese."

Although like I mentioned earlier it isn't to much calories that causes obesity it is more the sugars, saturated fats and salts. In the fitness industry you eat more calories to "bulk" up. You eat less to "cut" down and to maintain you eat around 2500 calories. Also people need to not worry about calories first and clean up what they are eating and try include foods such as chicken, fish, rice, any vegetables, oats/ porridge, eggs etc. Even foods with high fats can be good for you. Normal fats in food are better than the saturated fat you'll find in food because saturates will cause you to put on more fat and can increase health problems and can even increase the chances of having a heart attack whereas normal fats are good as they contribute to muscle growth and energy for the body however you do have to keep an eye on it because to much normal fats will then lead to more weight being put on.

Graphic
This graph here is a bit of a shock to see that there is a lot of overweight children however until the age of around 13+ you eat what your parents give you and it is their fault if they give you bad food consistently. From 13+ you can then start to choose your own foods which you like and start having that independence to say that you want to eat healthy rather than unhealthily.

The next bit is copied to show what foods are being targeted to reduce the calories in:
  • savoury biscuits and crackers
  • speciality breads, such as ciabatta with olives
  • cooking sauces and dressings
  • crisps and savoury snacks
  • egg products
  • potato products
  • meat products, such as pies, pastries, sausages and burgers
  • pasta, rice and noodles
  • ready meals and takeaways
  • dips
  • pizza
  • food-to-go, such as sandwiches
  • soups

The foods I've put in green are foods i agree that they are bad for you if eaten to much however the ones in red I think are fine because eggs are high in protein, however the only bad bit about eggs is the yolk which contains the most fat but it isn't that much. Next is potatoes, now potato products can be bad such as chips or crisps however baked potato or sweet potato are a food which is highly recommend in the fitness industry to have with meat and veg as it contains a lot of natural carbs which aren't bad for you. Again pasta, rice and noddles aren't bad if you don't put sauces on them they are the alternative carbohydrate source if you don't have potatoes. The only time things like potatoes and rice/pasta would be bad for you is if you have diabetes because it turns into glucose which turns into sugar which is an issue for diabetics as the body won't produce insulin to break it down so they practically have "shards" of sugar going through their blood. Ready to go sandwiches can be either good or bad for you depending on what sandwich you pick up. Example if you have a chicken and avocado then you have a sandwich with high protein and good fats from the avocado. But if you went for something like sausage and bacon sandwich although it will taste great you have a sandwich with high saturated fats and salt. Finally soups can be amazing for you if they are homemade or even some can soups are completely fine however some can contain high sugar levels which is why I think they put that in their. The rest in green I do agree with because they'll be bad for you one way or another.

The agency is trying to suggest 400 calories for breakfast and 600 for lunch and dinner. This equals 1600 calories which would be good for losing weight but if you decide to do exercise then this can be bad for you in a way. Instead of trying to eat lower calories and then do exercise to burn more calories. Try eating around 2000 or 2500 calories but whilst doing exercise do some calorie burning exercises so for example you burn 500 calories that leaves you with 1500 or 2000 calories left instead of 1100 calories. This is important because if you want your muscles to grow (which is easier to do if you are overweight that it is to do underweight) this means your muscles can consume those calories which then means they can grow.

This video here explains it quite well.

Overall, I do agree that some people do need to start watching what they're eating however reducing calories isn't the answer the bottom line and everyone knows it is eating the correct foods and not drinking all these bad drinks and to start exercising and after a week or two of doing so it isn't as hard to keep up because it is what you are used to. I do also think people are allowed to have what they want such as take outs but they should have one every other week or something like that because once every now and then isn't that bad for you.

Weekly news No.14

Leicester explosion causes kills five innocent people.

Mary Ragoobar and sons Shane and Sean

Mary Ragoobar aged 46 and her two sons Sean 17 and Shane 18 were killed when the shop in Hinckley Road was destroyed on Sunday. They lived in the flat directly above the shop. More people were killed in the incident but no names have been released yet. By the sounds of the incident it was a fire that started this and the fire was an accident. Witnesses say they saw the third son be pulled out of the rubble and is in hospital being treated now.

A lot of witnesses have said that the family was really nice and that they were the last people that deserved this and that they wish the third brothers recovery is fast and that they hope he is okay after all of this.

Police are still investigating to find out what happened and why the building blew up and from all evidence at the moment there is no sign of any terrorist action and that this was just an unfortunate accident.

There hasn't been many incidents on fires since Grenfell tower and this could be due to high awareness of the risks that fire can cause and that the UK government are testing more and more buildings to see if they have any big fire hazards to try and prevent incidents like Grenfell and this to happen.

Overall, I think this is a very tragic event that shouldn't have happened especially as what seemed top have been a small accident which may have started the fire cause five people to die and more to be injured.

Video Games and the effects they may have.

Image result for video games

From doing some research on games their is a mix between whether games are good or bad for you. For example one website gives some "scientific benefits" that games can have. These include:

  • 3D games can increase memory capacity. They got a certain amount of people to play 3D Mario games and others to play 2D Angry Birds. After playing these games for x amount of time the people who played mario seemed to do better on some memory based questions and this may have been due to being more engaged in a 3D game always having to remember certain parts of the map instead of just going left or right like in a 2D game.
  • The next benefit was that games are good for pain relief because you draw your attention away from your injury and end up focusing on the game so much that you can almost forget the pain is there.
  • Following this is that games may help people who have dyslexia read. Some people think with subtitles on in the background it could passively help or due to playing a fast paced game it can increase their attention span meaning they can learn to read as fast as any other person or significantly increase the speed at which they are currently at.
  • Tetris may help limit trauma. People who were in hospital were asked to play about 20 minutes or so of Tetris and they asked the people who had played it and 30 people who didn't about how they felt. The majority of people who played Tetris said that they weren't as traumatised as they were before. This could be due to the simplicity of it and that it is a calm and very chilled game.
  • This one seems to good to be true but games may increase your intelligence. By playing certain games and having to memorise different things to progress can help improve your memory.
However when it comes to gaming unfortunately it isn't all just good effects, there are negatives to go with it. Like everything else when done excessively it is unhealthy.

  • To much gaming can cause some bad health problems because if you spend all your time gaming then you aren't being active and getting enough exercise then you may become obese or have some other health issues.
  • Also gaming may cause poor relationships between family and friends. For example if they aren't going out due to gaming they won't form any friendships and they may not know how to form friendships or other relationships when they are older. Also if you play games then you may not be communicating with your family enough because you spend so long gaming.
  • Depending on what games you could be playing it could cause you to be more aggressive and act out more violently. If in games for example Grand Theft Auto you go around beating everyone up, then over time you may start to think it is okay and act it out in real life.

Below is a link from BBC news discussing whether games can make people violent or not.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-33960075

Overall though I don't think games cause people to act out aggressively or do bad things because we all have boundaries and lines which we can see what is right and what is wrong so doing anything bad would be the persons fault not and not what they've seen in a game and thinking that they can get away with it.
